Adding a Framework

Step-by-step guide to adding a compliance framework to your Imara account.

How to Add a Framework

Adding a framework is the first step to structuring your compliance program in Imara. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Frameworks section in the side menu.
  2. Click the Add Framework button in the upper right corner.
  3. Select the desired framework from the list (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, LGPD, or CCPA).
  4. Review the controls that will be automatically created and confirm the addition.

What Happens After Adding

When you add a framework, Imara automatically performs the following actions:

  • Control Creation — All controls required by the framework are created in the Not Started state.
  • Test Creation — Automated and manual tests are linked to each control to guide evidence collection.
  • Document Creation — Policy and procedure templates relevant to the framework are made available in the Documents section.
  • Canonical Mapping — If you already have other active frameworks, canonical controls are automatically mapped to avoid duplicating effort.

Multiple Frameworks

You can add as many frameworks as your organization needs. Imara will automatically identify overlaps between frameworks using Canonical Controls, allowing evidence collected for one framework to serve another when requirements are equivalent.

Removing a Framework

To remove a framework, go to its settings and select the removal option. Note: removing a framework deletes the controls specific to that framework but does not affect canonical controls shared with other active frameworks.
